Nepal-India security meeting today

Kathmandu, July 6th. The Nepal-India home secretary level meeting is starting from Tuesday in the capital of India, New Delhi. To participate in the meeting, under the leadership of the Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Gokarnamani Duwadi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Nepal Police, Additional Inspector General of Armed Police, Director of National Investigation Department; A joint secretary level team of the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation reached New Delhi on Monday. 

In the meeting, issues of mutual interest like border security, human trafficking, drug trade will be discussed. Rabindra Adhikari, Deputy Secretary and Information Officer of the Home Ministry's Peace and Security Division informed that the high-level meeting will discuss issues such as cross-border crime, human trafficking, drug trafficking and trade, smuggling, and illegal entry of third-country nationals. 

Although there is an agreement to hold Home Secretary-level meeting every year between the two countries with the aim of finding solutions to developments, security challenges, this time it is going to be held after the meeting held in New Delhi in 2016. It is said that in the meeting, there will be an in-depth discussion about the security challenges that may arise from the open border between the two countries, theft and smuggling, and other security sensitivities. 

In addition to this, it is said that the meeting will focus on common problems such as information exchange and natural disasters to make border security more effective.

In the meeting, issues such as border encroachment, maintenance of border pillars, physical structures built in the border area will also be discussed. In the meeting, there will be a discussion about the flooding caused by the physical structures and roads built in the border area and its solution.

Nepal-India joint secretary level meeting was held in Pokhara last March to prepare for this meeting, which has been stopped for the past nine years.
